When you have a relatively small kitchen, you have to make use of every square inch of space that you have available to you. We recently purchased a brand new black refrigerator to match the other black appliances in our kitchen. It just so happens that the new black refrigerator was ¾” less wide than the previous one. As a result, it left a bit more space than our previous refrigerator on the left side if you are looking at it (seen in the photo).
With our old refrigerator there was also space to the left of it and we simply jammed used plastic and paper bags into the space. To be honest, it didn’t really look very good but it wasn’t that noticeable to visitors. But with the new refrigerator, there was enough room for my wife to create a rather unique kitchen storage solution. She decided to create this solution using some old kitchen shelving that we received from my brother after he had his kitchen completely renovated about a year ago.
We stored a number of maple plywood boards down in our basement in hopes that we could use them for a DIY project in the future. Well, now was the time! My wife envisioned a thin storage cabinet with a few shelves and a door on hinges that you could shut and hold with a small magnet inside the cabinet.

When it comes to a small kitchen it makes sense to think outside the box to maximize your storage space. This unique DIY kitchen storage solution does just that for our kitchen!
